BMW 320CI

After being on TT for a while i realised i havent done a post about my E46 so here we go.

After getting a new job that would involve a lot of motorway driving I decided to treat myself to a new car, it's a E46 320 Ci with 107k miles on the clock. It has full leather interior, all the usual toys (air con, climate control etc) and apart from some small dents in the passenger side rear quarter panel and some spots of rust it was in good condition overall.

A few weeks after buying it i took it on it's first run up through Duke's Pass when the Thermostat failed causing the radiator to explode. After getting it home as well as replacing the radiator and thermostat i decided to do the hoses and expansion tank at the same. This came to about £280 in total for all the parts and the Evans waterless coolant.

After this ran without fault for over a year needing only 1 tyre and new discs/pads but the belts were badly cracked so decided to put it off the road than run the risk of them snapping and blowing the engine. The car went on the back burner for over a year as i moved house and then changed jobs. Not long after i finally got round to getting the belts changed and got it back on the road where it belongs.

A couple of weeks later i decided to get the wheels refurbished at "The Wheel Specialist" in Cumbernauld as they had good reviews and could be done whilst i was at work (they are literally 50 yards away from my work lol).

The car still needs a fair bit doing to it which is mostly body work but i am quite happy how far its came since last year.

Looks like, despite the problems, you're having fun with those. It does look like you've got less to do than me at the moment.

E46 is looking good.

Curiosity makes me wonder about the HGT. I have an aversion to Fiats after fixing my mate and his missus' punto's. Newer ones granted but by god were they made/put together badly.

The old Puntos are really getting into that almost retro bracket now. A good one could maybe be worth money in a few years?

Yeah it's the only reason I can justify the amount of money I spend on them

Thanks, from my experience with both owning/fixing the older Fiat's they do have their own issues but are easy to work on and are cheap to fix.

I have noticed that it tends to attract attention as the HGT isn't a common sight on the roads so people don't realise how quick they are. Hopefully the price does rise but similar era VW'S and performance Ford's still dominate the market.
