205 TD (RIP) - UR Impreza Roadster

Here is another one of my projects. I picked it up 8 months ago with the intention of using it as a work horse. 3 weeks later it popped a coolant hose on the way home from having the rear beam reset.

175k on the clock but its a good shell with a very minty half leather phase 2 interior.

It has gti6 front calipers, 30mm lower all round and err, thats about it. Currently residing in my garage and I'm deciding what to do with it.

I'll update the thread with ideas, developments and pics as I go.

I'd like to build something along the hill climb vein.

Light, raw and very noisy. Not sure if I can feasible make it mid engined and keep it road legal though.

There's a guy races a Cappucino that's had bit done to it......only thing original must be just a few body bits. He stuck with a Suzuki engine though, albeit from a Hayabusa. Lovely little thing and beautifully engineered. Fast.As.Feck.

Having a total swing in ideas and probably watching too much George Clarke, i'm thinking it might be cool to turn this into a camper van.

Have a fold out tent section in the tail gate, inflatable matress on a fold out frame to sleep on and some storage underneath, fold down screen that connects up to your tablet/phone etc etc.

I reckon i could make something that would make a great weekend touring tool for two

Anyone ever owned something similar, car or van?

You will definitely make it onto the show if you manage to turn that into a camper!!!

Honda VTEC from a CRX, or newer?
Nice suspension & damping, keep it supple though.
Beautiful antidote to modern, heavy and over grippy hatches.

If i go the camper route then i think i'll put the 406 V6 engine and box in it. Plenty torque and sounds great.

I think this more suits my needs than a mid engine special seeing as we have the GTC for that sort of thing, tracks and hillclimbs etc.

I can't quite believe I am saying this but....if serious about the camper route, a modern TDi engine might be a way better shout for several reasons.
Biggest one is range. I know from experience how tricky it can be to get good fuel whilst out in the wilds of Scotland and with the scooby there have been some nervous cruises even with it's 300 mile range.
Also, if you intend to use it without a tent it is going to very likely you will need to get the blowers going at some point when in it. A diesel is far better suited to that sort of idling use I would think?
You are also likely to be doing some very low speed crawling around camp spots, the low end torque could be handy.

But it is a diesel. And they all sound crap.
And throttle response is weird.

Bugger it, fit a big V6.

Should try to keep it looking as stock as possible and would be one hell of a sleeper!

Or do it up like a complete chav chariot, no one expects them to be fast.
