Battery Woes

Hello good people. After months of much grief and many visits to Motortune, it looks like the culprit of my flat battery problems has finally been found. The picture below is the alarm siren and back up battery. It had become faulty and had taken it apon itself to drain the main battery. According to Peter, it's not an uncommon problem so I wondered if anyone else has had this happen to them. I have a 2004 996tt so I'm not sure it if it's an issue for all 996's or only the turbo.

Lee, was this what was wrong with yours or did Kieran just keep giving you duff batteries?

Do you have the part number? I just keep mine on a trickle charger now. How long did it take to drain the battery and how long does it last now!

It lasted about 2 days before it went in to Motortune. It lasted 2 days with them as well. Once the siren was isolated it was fine (full charge). Only got it back today so fingers crossed it's now fixed.

It's going fine but I only got it back on Friday. Once I've left it for a week or so we will see what happens. It's looking good so far though ! The part number is 996.618.237.03. It might be a good idea to give Peter at Motortune a call (01501 822247) just to check your options. He is a bit busy at the moment though. I counted 8 Porsches when I was there on Friday !!

Evening all

I had trouble with my batt on the 997. Theres a meaty copper cable running from the batterjy at the front to the back whos bracket/connection was gubbed Which my mechanic refabricated. Now holds charge no matter what and starts with no hesitation unlike before. .....wworth considering.
