New Volkswagen XL Sport with V2 Ducati Superleggera Engine

Our email is full to busting with all the new cars being released at Paris Motorshow, but this one caught my eye as something quite interesting.

Volkswagen xl sport

Volkswagen have taken the ultra lightweight and efficient XL1, which is capable of 313MPG, and turned it into a Ducati powered sports car!

VW say that this 200PS (147 kW), 11,000 rpm redline(!) engine will take the XL Sport up to an massive 270 km/h (167MPH). These number might only be achievable on their hand test track but if it even gets close then it will still be an interesting car.

For some reason VW aren’t sounding about the weight and efficiency of this car and you need to wade deep into the press release to find: “ratio between weight (890 kg), power (147 kW / 200 PS) and aerodynamics (cd x A = 0.44 m2) that currently makes this concept car the fastest 200 PS car in the world. No other sports car has ever reached a top speed of 270 km/h with 200 PS“.

There’s no talk of the expected MPG, and I’m sure it won’t be 313MPG, but this does seem like an interesting alternative to BMW’s i8 electric solution and it’s 1000x more interesting than a diesel sports car!

Tell us on the forum what you think of the looks.
