Yesterday TT went along to the launch of what must be the biggest and most ambitious motoring event ever organised in Scotland.
We already knew that David Coulthard is going to be driving a Red Bull F1 car on a circuit around the perimeter of the SECC, but today we learned that the circuit is going to be opened by Jimmy McRae who will be driving Colin McRae’s WRC winning Subaru Impreza.
This event isn’t just going to be a motor show with a few demonstration, it’s a proper motoring festival in the same vein as Chris Evans Carfest. Some of the highlights of the Friday 5th – Sunday 7th of August festival include:
- Full collection of Colin McRae’s cars on display
- Le Mans race cars on display
- Concerts
- Street food village
- Supercar arena curated by Top Gear
- The Stig hooning around the circuit and arena
- 4×4 village
- Stunt arena
- Test drive facility for the public to try new cars
Yesterday’s launch included demonstrations by the Top Gear Live Stunt Team with Paul Swift and makes us believe they really can pull of a stunning event for Glasgow and Scotland, something that rivals the biggest motoring events usually confined to the South of England.
TT is going to be helping the organisers to find some of the rarer cars that they would like to attend the event and we’ll be working with them to bring you competitions and discounts too.
Let us know if you can help and if you plan on attending….
