McLaren Glasgow Opening

McLaren Glasgow has been open for a few months now but last night was the official opening of the Hamilton based showroom and Tartan Tarmac was invited to go along.

It’s great to see McLaren with a presence in Scotland and sales have already been going well for the new dealership.  The showroom had a some new additions for the evening including a 650S GT car and a stunning P1 which looked fantastic in its track only race mode which lowers the suspension 50 mm and fully extends the rear spoiler.  Also present was an ex David Coulthard F1 car which has been in the showroom for a few weeks now and is great to see close up.

As well as the main showroom, there was also a pit stop challenge event where guests could time themselves changing wheels on an F1 car – the world record for which is apparently a barely believable 1.9 seconds!  Besides the cars, entertainment for the evening was provided by magician DMC who performed some incredible card tricks – if you haven’t heard of him and you’re a fan of David Blaine/Dynamo style magic then check him out.

The event was extremely well attended and guests included Glasgow’s own singer/songwriter/petrolhead Amy MacDonald… wonder if she’s planning on buying something to keep her 458 Speciale company?  Speaking of which the sister Bentley showroom next door currently has this gorgeous Speciale on display…

This should be an exciting year for McLaren with a new model, codenamed P13 being launched to join the current 650S and 650S Spider.  The P13 will sit below the 650S and is expected to be at a price point where it will compete with the upper end of the Porsche 911 range.  It’s spec sounds very promising so we look forward to seeing it in the metal later in the year!

Unfortunately due to restrictions and very limited time we weren’t able to produce a full video of the event as we had hoped but here’s a taster of the evening & thanks to McLaren Glasgow for their hospitality.

P.S. If you missed it, here’s Alan Douglas’s write up from his visit to McLaren to see the extreme, track only P1 GTR!
