On Thursday John and I headed down to Millbrook Proving Ground for this year's SMMT test day, taking some of the latest cars from various manufacturers onto the hill route and high speed bowl.
It was a busy day, we tested some EVs including the Volvo EX90, Polestar 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, all very impressive, especially the Ioniq 5 N with its simulated gears.
Onto some petrol powered sports cars, we took out a couple of AMG GTs, in 55 and 43 guise, the 55 having slightly more playful handling. We headed to the Alpine stand to take out the A110R, the hardcore version of an already great car, with carbon fibre everywhere and racing harnesses. My favourite car of the day, so grippy and precise.
The FL5 Civic Type R was next, feeling like it was on rails and with one of the best manual gearboxes. We rounded off the day with the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quardrifoglio, another fun car with a great soundtrack.
