As you might of seen from the forums, I like a bit of fantasy auction browsing, so when I spotted a press release for the next event at Classic Car Auction I proceeded to lose the next hour of my life.
The auctions from CCA are a bit more affordable than the likes of Silverstone Auctions or Coy’s so there’s plenty of tasty metal to pick from without breaking the bank too much (save that for the maintenance).
If money were on the table then it might be a harder choice, but here’s my top three that I’m fancying today:
1975 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible
it might not be the fastest Corvette ever made but it’s certainly one of the best looking, especially in that lovely metallic blue shade. Even if it isn’t too fast, you can bet that the 5.7l V8 with “Meaty quad exhaust system” will sound great as you’re cruising along.
Coming with very little history, this little classic from Japan might be a bit of a gamble. Having said that, if you can get it for ÂŁ8k then surely the rarity and mega cool looks will mean there will always be someone willing to buy it. 125bhp and a 5 speed manual ‘box should mean it’s still a fun classic to own.
The best drivers car Aston Martin have ever made? Probably not. What you do get for your ÂŁ25-ÂŁ30k is Ian Callum’s classic design + Aston’s glorious 5.7l V12, and that’s a bargain. It might cost a few pounds to keep on the road (a call to Martin’s Aston Services should keep the costs down) but imagine getting up on a Sunday morning and going for a long drive up to some flowing highland roads…..
On top of my three picks above I spotted a few oddities. I’m not the TTer with the massive classic car market knowledge (Give John Shiveral a call for that) but the 1967 Austin Healey 3000 Mk 111 for ÂŁ65 – ÂŁ75k seems a crazy amount of money.
Also, what are your thoughts on the 2005 Lamborghini Countach 5000S “Evocation” (pictured at the top) for ÂŁ25 – ÂŁ30k? At least it would be cheaper to run than the real thing!
