Kia Stinger GT

The rise and rise of Kia shows no signs of stopping with the up and coming release of the Stinger GT. A long way from economic shopping cars, this new model propels Kia past some of the more establish manufacturers and allows them to start competing with the Germans – no easy task!

In a similar move to what Alfa recently did with the launch of the Giulia Quadrifoglio, Kia have came right out with the performance model to wow the motoring press and public.

The Stinger GT is a five door fastback saloon similar to the S5 Sportback from Audi, BMW 440i GranCoupé and Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe. The new Kia also has similar engine configuration and power outputs: front mounted 3.3L Twin Turbo V6, 365hp, 376 lb-ft, rear wheel drive and a mechanical limited slip differential.

What’s the catch then? Well it’s looking to be priced at around £35k in the UK so it’s around £10k cheaper than its rivals. This will make you feel inferior at the golf club….until you tell your friends that you bought yourself a lightly used Westfield with the difference in price!

Kia say they have made this car as a comfortable long distance cruiser and this makes a lot of sense. Taking on the full fat AMG, M or RS models would never work and Kia knows this.

So, it’s fast enough, will be chock-full of tech and looks pretty good: is this enough to tempt you to actually buy your first Kia?

It’s also interesting to note how bold Kia are being in making the Stinger GT and daring to take on Merc, BMW and Audi. The likes of Ford, Vauxhall, Honda, Mazda and Toyota have pretty much given up on making cars in this segment. When was the last time we got a properly hot Mondeo?

Kia PR team, we can’t wait to have a drive of this…..
