Mazda Mx5 – Let Loose

The kind, kind people at Mazda decided, in their wisdom, to leave a new Mx5 with us for a couple of weeks over winter. The weather was super un-roadster friendly to say the least but when has that ever stopped us? No such thing as bad weather, only intrusive traction control.

We brought the car along to the breakfast meet and it was a big hit in amongst the McLarens. We took it to visit an older sibling and see how they compared. We even ran it to work a few days in the interests of economy figure geekery. You’ll no doubt have seen John Shiveral’s write up and John Steele’s video review which cover all these points exceptionally well. So what to do with the little Mazda?

Well it’s simple, park it up and wash it.

One and a half buckets filled with your finest fairy liquid, my best sponge retrieved from the dog’s bed and some balsamic vinegar for the windows, sorted. Walk outside to hose the blighter down and it’s gone. Nothing but a pair of 11’s, a Tartan scarf and a faint whiff of butter chicken.

3 days later and a vhs arrived in the post with a note reading, “Good feckin fun that. Could do with a supercharger….Tartan Senna”

We’re still not sure who he/she was or why they were unable to record any decent engine noise but they did manage the impossible, a clear run over the Dukes Pass.

So sit back, relax and enjoy the ubiquitous soft top being hussled over our favourite road. If you find out who this stranger is, be sure to let us know.
