V60 Polestar, first impressions matter.

And what can we say, this one didn’t disappoint. We had the time and enthusiasm to take this car and try it out in all conditions on some of the most challenging roads Scotland has to offer. The love of driving a practical car that has the performance of a sports car is something everyone should enjoy one day.

So why is this not just an ordinary Volvo estate? The biggest clue is the wee square blue badge front and back. Polestar have applied their magic and created something that’s really not what you expect. The 350hp 4-wheel drive system puts the power down with ease, giving you quite the shove in the back when planting your right foot into carpet. With a 0-60 time of around 5 seconds, you do get the feeling that you’ve got enough power for all your needs in an estate car.

The experience Polestar brought from their successful touring car program has made the car into something altogether……well…….not exactly Volvo.

The simple things being taken care of are all important when driving an estate that’s capable of leaving most other cars at the lights. The fact that the gearbox won’t try and pre-empt you when in sport mode is a vital piece of mind. No changing gears half way round a bend, or when you get to the red line.

The stopping power is equally impressive. Brembo discs and 6 pot calipers give you more anchorage than you should realistically try and use on open roads. From the drivers seat, the interior is a very nice place to be and I have to say the seat is itself is probably one of the comfiest bucket seats I’ve enjoyed in a modern car.

The change in Chassis, Brakes, Suspension, Gearbox, Exhaust, Engine, Aero Dynamics and interior are all well executed which brings the car a presence that can rival any other performance car in the same price bracket.

However that brings us to the fact that it is still wearing the Volvo badge and being sold from the same dealers as the rest of the range. Put simply, we’re going to have to get over that fact as the car deserves more and should be seen as a serious contender. If this were any another marque people wouldn’t think twice about them releasing a higher-powered sportier model. Some people will always just think it’s nearly £50,000 for a Volvo estate, which is not how this car should viewed. Please watch the video
