Range Rover Velar

We’ve seen a few teasers for this car but finally we’ve had the full reveal ahead of it’s Geneva debut.

I was a bit sceptical that we needed another model to slot in between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport but this almost seems like they had a great design for a new car and just needed to build it.

Demand for all RR products is still huge and while the Evoque and full fat Range Rover are still quite fresh, the Valar has given them a chance to unleash the next generation of design and technology.

There’s lots of marketing talk about heritage and the original Range Rover but this new model stands on it’s own quite well.

In a nutshell, the Velar has the family RR look as well as the off-road capability and next generation technology:

  • super-slim Matrix Laser-LED headlights and flush deployable door handles
  • Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, featuring two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens for unrivalled functionality and intuitive operation
  • 632-litre luggage compartment from a 2,874mm wheelbase
  • Air suspension as standard on six-cylinder models
  • All-wheel drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics and optional active locking rear differential
  • Terrain Response 2 (optional), All Terrain Progress Control (optional), Low Traction Launch, Hill Descent Control and Gradient Release Control
  • Towing capacity of up to 2,500kg complemented by the optional Advanced Tow Assist function
  • Six powertrains ranging from the clean, responsive 180PS 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel with CO2 emissions from only 142g/km, to the potent 380PS supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine

The Velar is on sale from Summer 2017 priced from £44,830 (OTR) – don’t bet on there being discounts any time soon since they’ll probably struggle to make enough of them.
